Terminology

A few terms used throughout T-BAS and DeCIFR.

  • Reference set: a curated tree + associated alignment(s) + metadata for a taxonomic scope and marker set.
  • Placement: positioning query sequences onto edges of an existing reference tree using a likelihood-based method.
  • MEP (Metadata Enhanced PhyloXML): a results packaging format that extends PhyloXML with additional tags used by T-BAS/DeCIFR.
  • OTU: an operational grouping of sequences (often by similarity threshold), used for organizing queries/metadata.
